We named our project inspired by Rafik Schami’s book “A hand full of stars” and Orhan Kemal’s book “On the Red Lands”. In our project we will have activities on 2 current topics. The first one will be the Cultural Heritage and the second one will be the Syrian migrants. Şanlıurfa is located in a crucial position for these 2 topics. Our city is the cradle of different cultures, different religions and also in the recent years due to Civil War in Syria, it became higly Syrian populated city. In our project our participants will both see the cultural heritages of our city and Turkey and also they will have a chance to make empathy with the Syrian migrants
We will have 30 participants from 6 different countries which are Turkey, Greece, Lithuania, Italy, Holland and Portugal. We will do preparation visit in 21-22 May 2019 and the Main Activities in 21-28 June 2019 in Şanlıurfa
If we summarise the goals of our project:
1.Talking about the cultural heritage of 6 different countries, encouraging intercultural learning between 30 participants
2.Increasing awareness about the situation of the Syrian migrants. Encouraging the participants to take action for the migrants/refugees in their local communities
3. Teaching ebru arts and mosaic arts to our participants
4. Increasing the self esteem and the creativity of the participants
5. Increasing the foreign language levels of the participants
6.Supporting the participants to produce solutions for their local problems in their countries.
To reach these goals in the first 4 days of our Main Activities we will focus on the cultural heritage. We will share the cultural heritage of our culture and also learn from our partners. In the second half of our activities we will focus on the problems of Syrians and create awareness on our 30 participants. In the last days of our activities we will ask our participants to share their impressions and project achievements with mosaic and ebru artworks. Syrian migrant children and young people will also join these activities sharing their artworks in the exhibition that we will open in the last day of the Main Activities. In our main activities, we will implement the non formal methods like group works, energyzers, outdoor field studies,
In the end of our project we expect our participants to be more informed and being more sensitive about cultural heritage, and being more informed and have more empathy for the Syrian migrants. We also expect our participants to be more outgoing, taking initiatives in their local environments and to come up with solutions for local problems. If we summarise the benefit of our project for the partner organizations since they are all working on our 2 topics, they will increase their capacity, creating new networks which will result in more projects and more acitivites in the future. We expect that after our project ends, for the October deadline of 2019 we will present one Youth Exhchange project about one theme of our project and in the long term we expect to have an academical article or KA2 Project on the topic of cultural heritage.
